Get the basics of How to Cook Scrapple

Scrapple Appetizers and Hors d’oeuvres

Often thought of only as a breakfast side dish, scrapple will delight and surprise your guests as a spicy appetizer or hors d’oeuvre.

Ingredients

  • Store bought scrapple loaf
  • Egg, slightly beaten or Egg Beater mix
  • Bread crumbs
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salsa for dipping

Preparation

  • Cut scrapple into 1/2 inch cubes using a very sharp knife
  • Dip scrapple cubes into beaten egg
  • Coat scrapple cubes with bread crumbs

Heat the oil in a deep fryer. Lower breaded scrapple cubes into hot oil and cook until crispy about 5 minutes. Remove cubes from oil; drain and cool cubes. Insert toothpicks or skewers into cubes and serve with salsa or other desired sauce.

The key to perfect, crispy scrapple is to make sure your oil is hot before cooking.  The crispier the scrapple, the better the meal!
